South Barn - a Hidden Gem

Local Area

South Barn is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty and numerous beaches are close by (Mattiscombe, Lannacombe, Slapton, Blackpool Sands, East Portlemouth etc.) Also nearby are several characterful pubs such as the Pigs Nose in East Prawle, the Cricket Inn in Beesands and the Millbrook Inn in South Pool, as well as the many restaurants of Dartmouth, Salcombe and Kingsbridge.

For birdwatchers Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve  is less than a mile away. Designated a site of Special Scientific Interest it is recognised as a wetland with an important place in Britain's natural heritage. The main feature is the Lower Ley, which is the largest natural lake in south-west England. Although it is only separated from the sea by a narrow shingle bar, it is entirely freshwater.
